Ships Point Volunteer Firefighters Association

A 100% volunteer based registered charitable fundraising organization that promotes community safety initiatives and financially supports the Ships Point Fire Department with enhanced training and supplies.

What We Do

Fire Safety and Prevention

  • Each spring we run a chipping event where residents clean up winter windfall and dead branches and place them on the road for chipping.   This reduces backyard burning which promotes better air quality and reduces the fuel available for wildfires.
  • Sale of Wildfire Protection Kits:   The kits include sprinklers and hoses that attach to your roof.  In the case of a wildfire, the fire department would activate these sprinklers to create a humidity dome that protects your home. E-mail us at spvfirefightersassociation@gmail.com to get yours.  Cost is $200 including taxes.

Emergency Prepardeness

  • Medical Blue Bottle Program:  In case of a medical emergency, First Responders will look for this bottle to obtain important medical information that assists in providing you the care that aligns with your condition and your wishes.  The bottle and its associated fridge magnet can be obtained free of charge.  Visit Blue Bottle for more information.
  • If you have a pet, we can provide you with free stickers for your windows that alert emergency responders that a pet is present.  This increases safety for your pet and emergency responders. E-mail us at spvfirefightersassociation@gmail.com to get yours.

Community/Environment

  • We run a refundable container drop off depot at the firehall located at 7729 Vivian Way.   This is a convenient way to recycle and the generated monies are the primary source of our fundraising.
  • If you have funds in your Return-It Express account, you can donate the funds to the association using this link https://app.return-it.ca/shipspointvolunteerfirefightersassociation.  Donations of $20.00 or more at the end of the year will be issued a tax receipt.

Supporting the Ships Point Volunteer Fire Department

  • Enhanced Fire Training:   We fund opportunities for members to gain training at other departments, particularly where we do not have the appropriate facilities.   Examples include:   Live Fire and Survival and Rescue Training in Comox.
  • First Responder Equipment:   We fund equipment that could not otherwise be purchased due to financial constraints; for example the annual purchase of Epipens.

DONATIONS

We provide charitable tax receipts for donations of $20 or more
